When my daughter was born, I felt an intense pull to capture perfectly styled portraits of her beauty. I documented her as a sweetly sleeping newborn against a blanket backdrop, and as a two year old celebrating her birthday on a cute, yellow chair with a prop of balloons. But during the moments in between, while we were living our real life, I realized I wanted to capture that too. Because 20 years from now - when my house is quiet and my kids are grown - these are the moments I will miss the most.
The real life moments are what tell my family’s story. And they’re the same moments I want to capture in order to tell your family’s story.
During your photo session, I will not awkwardly pose you, nor will I suggest meeting at a location known to have the best lighting. Instead, I’ll ask to document you wearing the outfits you would normally wear as you enjoy your family’s routine in the place where you all feel most comfortable. Yoga pants are completely acceptable, and I encourage all little ones to play freely. I want to photograph your interactions as you live in the moment whether that’s spending the evening out on your boat, swimming at the beach, reading books together at home, or honoring your family’s traditions and creating new ones throughout the year. This is your session, and I want you to feel as though there are no demands placed on you or your family.
I want to capture the moments that are the most meaningful to you because your everyday moments are nothing short of extraordinary.
The time you spend together as a family is joyous, yet it’s also messy and chaotic. But the most important thing to remember about the time you spend together is it’s fleeting. I want you to have photographs that show when your son insisted on only dressing up like his favorite superhero. I want your granddaughter to look back and remember the first time you baked your family’s famous peach dumplings together. I want your family to be able to look back on your session and be able to see they are loved beyond measure.
Let’s document a chapter of your family’s story together, so you will always remember the real life moments you experienced as a family at this point in your life. Without a doubt, your photographs will become cherished family heirlooms.
"Jen was totally professional in every way. She prepared us carefully for what was involved. She has also been meticulous in following up with us, in making sure we are happy with the results, and in hand-delivering our pictures. Perhaps even more important, Jen is simply an excellent artist. She has the photographer's "eye," knowing instinctively (it seems) how to create what she has in mind. Finally, Jen is a delightful person, who appealed to everyone in our group (ranging in age from 2 to 73). Even our recalcitrant 7 year old was won over by her patience and smile, and looks wonderful in the finished product." -Susan
"Jen has a calm vibe and an ability to capture sweet moments and little smiles, even when not all of the participants are willing! She took advantage of the light and the scenery to capture stunning photos with amazing depth. We are so grateful for these images that froze time and captured our family just beautifully." -Kimberly
"I'm so glad I had Jen photograph our weekend at Osprey Point. Our pictures brought tears to my eyes, they were so amazing and beautiful. My grandson will certainly treasure the photos. I can see him as an old man with a gray beard dreaming back to this day. He will love this as much as I love the one and only picture I have of my nana welcoming us on her front porch 60 years ago when I was about 4! Looking forward to next year's shoot!" -Barb
"We were able to go about a typical Saturday morning without feeling overly directed - in other words, Jennifer's style was unobtrusive, which helped all of us relax. You can see that in the photos." -Jacob
"I finally found a way to save my favorite moments in time to cherish forever. Our session with Jen documented a perfect family afternoon at home with pictures I couldn't possibly take myself. I see my daughter's personality shining through in every precious image." -Alicia
"Jen appreciates the natural dynamic in families and keeps out of the way to let it happen. Her photos are the only evidence she was even there!" -Brodey
"Jen's photographs truly capture the essence of our family at this point in our lives and I know I will cherish them for years to come! Jen was also very good and super patient with my rambunctious toddler which helped him be at ease and allowed us to get some great photos of an otherwise difficult to photograph 2 year old!" -Alice
The session fee for family photography sessions is $250. Collections start at $875 (+ sales tax). In addition to family portraits, I also photograph a handful of weddings each year.
